Andorra, Australia, Canada, Estonia, Israel, Japan,
Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Switzerland, Vatican City
and USA for stays of up to 30 days;
(c) nationals of
Croatia, Czech Republic, Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia, Georgia*, Hungary, Korea (Rep. of), Lithuania,
Malta, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation*, San Marino,
Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tunisia, Ukraine* and Yugoslavia
(Serbia & Montenegro).
Will be asked at the border to present proof of sufficient
funds (US$40 per day for the entire length of stay) or a
legalised invitation and a return ticket.
Single-entry: $55. Multiple-entry: $90 (6
months); $130 (12 months). Express: $70. Transit:
$45 (single-entry); $65 (double-entry); from $80 (multiple
entry).
Single-entry visas for tourist visits are normally valid
for 3 months from date of issue for a maximum stay of 30 days.
Multiple-entry visas are for business visits and are normally
valid for 3 months from date of issue. Transit visas allow for
stays of up to 24 hours. Enquire at the Embassy for further
details.
Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy). Applications should be made in person or by courier,
not by post.
Tourism: (a) Application form. (b) 2 passport-size
photos. (c) Passport valid for at least 3 months after the end
of your visit. (d) Return ticket or documentation for next
destination. (e) Fee (payable in cash or by postal order
only). (f) UK Resident visa (if applicable). (g) Prepaid
tourist vouchers from the travel agency.
Transit:
(a)-(f) and (g) Proof of sufficient funds.
Business:
(a)-(f) and, (g) Letters from the applicant’s company and from
the Bulgarian business partner, endorsed by the Bulgarian
Chamber of Commerce.
Private: (a)-(f) and, (g) A
letter of invitation issued by the local authorities in
Bulgaria.
Normally 7 days for single-entry visas and 10 days for
multiple-entry visas, but processing can take up to 2 weeks as
confirmation has to be received from Sofia for each visa.
Express visas take between 1-7 days to be processed and should
be applied for in person. if resident in the home country.

Mains water is normally chlorinated, and whilst relatively
safe, can cause mild abdominal upsets. Some travellers may
prefer to drink bottled water for the first few weeks of their
stay. Milk is pasteurised and dairy products are safe for
consumption. Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and
vegetables are considered safe to eat.
Rabies is present. For those at high risk,
vaccination before arrival should be considered. If you are
bitten, seek medical advice without delay. For further
information consult the Health appendix.
Hepatitis B is endemic. Tick-borne encephalitis
exists. Immunisation against hepatitis A, diptheria
and tuberculosis is sometimes recommended.
Bacillary dysentery and typhoid fever are
common, especially in summer.
Basic
medical supplies are widely available, but specialised
treatments may not be.
